The benefits of CBD against asthma

Asthma is a scourge that affects 219 million people according to a 2019 estimate. It is therefore very likely that a good number of you are affected by this illness. In this article, we'll look at how CBD can help you fight asthma.

What is asthma?

Before looking at how CBD can help with asthma,

let's already see what asthma is;

Asthma is a chronic condition that causes breathing difficulties due to inflammation of the bronchi, the main route to the airways. This results in a narrowing of the airways, as well as an increase in sensitivity to pollen, cold air, cigarette smoke and certain animal hairs as well as an increase in mucus production, which can cause coughing fits and shortness of breath. These symptoms generally only appear in the event of an attack, the rest of the time people with asthma will just be more fragile and will have more difficulty carrying out certain physical activities such as running.

Existing treatments for asthma:

People with asthma should set up a medication plan with their doctor so they can control symptoms while minimizing risks.

There are two types of treatment: crisis treatment and basic treatment. The first involves using a bronchodilator during each attack. (ventolin) This is a medication which, once inhaled, dilates the bronchi and makes breathing easier.

The second treatment will look at the root causes of the asthma attack.

This involves taking several inhaled medications, so that their effects are directly on the lungs, which will help to dilate the bronchi depending on how advanced the stage of the asthma is.

This heavy treatment is unfortunately not without side effects.

These can range from mild effects, such as a hoarse voice and the appearance of oral fungus, which can be more or less avoided by rinsing the mouth after each inhalation.

Rarer, but also more disturbing, side effects can be the appearance of early cataracts, osteoporosis, fragility of the skin or growth retardation in a child.

--> This is where CBD seems to be able to intervene, all without side effects such as those mentioned.

Treatment of asthma using CBD:

How does treating asthma with CBD work?

Our body has an endocannabinoid system, which is made up of CB1 and CB2 receptors found in the nervous system and immune system.

CBD will therefore act on these different receptors in order to produce various effects.

The effects sought in the case of asthma are a reduction in inflammation of the bronchi as well as a reduction in hyperactivity of the respiratory system, reducing the number of endocannabinoid receptors responsible for the perception of pain.

Another of the interesting effects of CBD on asthma is its antispasmodic effect, relieving and decreasing the spasms of the lungs during attacks, which contract and shrink uncontrollably.

CBD also has a decongestant and expectorant effect, helping with digestion.

A test carried out on mice injected with allergic asthma showed results with taking CBD.

At relatively high doses, it was also observed that static lung elastance was also reduced.

*At present, nothing shows that CBD could cure asthma, however everything seems to show that it could help treat it just as effectively as the drugs already prescribed, or even better, acting less strongly but much more over time.

How should CBD be taken for asthma:

This may seem obvious, but it is of course not recommended to treat your asthma by smoking CBD, as the smoke can have quite the opposite effect. Instead, you should favor CBD oils or infusions.

As the dosage and percentage of CBD change from one person to another, it is advisable to start with small doses of one to two drops of a 5% CBD oil for example, and increase gradually. and over the weeks the number of drops and if necessary the percentage of CBD until the desired effect is achieved, the same goes for the inusions.

Some people will prefer to start directly with a 30% CBD oil or a 20% CBD infusion, it's up to you to choose which dose suits you best.

It is also possible to add concentrate or a few dried flowers to your meals and drinks before consuming them.

In general, they are consumed with a fat base such as milk, in order to promote the dissolution of cannabinoids.

There are also sprays for people who are used to treating their asthma with inhalers --> available in the store.

Some people may be tempted to take CBD to treat their asthma alongside other medications, as it is a natural substance, there is in principle no problem.
